Flora the Red Menace

This week in 1965, Flora the Red Menace debuted at the Colonial Theatre for its pre-Broadway tryout. Starring 19-year-old Liza Minnelli in her Broadway debut.

Featuring a book by George Abbott and Robert Russell, produced by Harold Prince, the musical was the first Broadway collaboration of John Kander and Fred Ebb who later developed shows such as Cabaret and Chicago.

Minnelli went on to win the Tony Award for Best Actress for her role as Flora becoming the youngest person to ever do so at the age of 19.
